Customer Case: 2″ × 0.0938″ × 1/2″ × 36T Solid Carbide Slitting Saw for CNC Machining

Custom Solid Carbide Slitting Saw for Precision Slotting

A machining customer required a solid carbide slitting saw for precision slotting and parting operations on a CNC machine. Based on the application requirements, we produced a custom 2″ × 0.0938″ × 1/2″ × 36T solid carbide slitting saw designed for stable cutting, accurate slot width, and reliable tool life.

The compact 2-inch diameter and 0.0938-inch thickness provide a practical combination for narrow-slot machining, while the 36-tooth configuration helps achieve smooth and controlled cutting performance.

Why Solid Carbide?

For CNC slotting applications where dimensional accuracy and cutting stability are important, solid carbide slitting saws offer advantages over conventional high-speed steel tools.

The solid carbide construction provides high hardness and rigidity, making the saw suitable for precision machining applications where maintaining a consistent slot width and minimizing tool deflection are important.

For this project, the saw geometry and manufacturing parameters were selected according to the customer’s machining requirements rather than simply using an off-the-shelf configuration.

36-Tooth Design for Controlled CNC Cutting

The 36T tooth configuration provides a relatively fine cutting pitch for a 2-inch diameter slitting saw. This helps provide stable engagement between the teeth and the workpiece during CNC slotting operations.

The final tooth geometry can be customized according to:

  • Workpiece material
  • Slot width and depth
  • Cutting speed and feed rate
  • Machine spindle capability
  • Coolant or dry-machining conditions
  • Required surface finish

This allows the same solid carbide slitting saw platform to be optimized for different CNC machining applications.

Custom Manufacturing for CNC Machining

The customer required a specific combination of diameter, thickness, bore and tooth count. Instead of modifying a standard catalog tool, we manufactured the saw according to the required specifications:

2″ × 0.0938″ × 1/2″ × 36T

Custom options can also include:

  • Outside diameter
  • Saw thickness
  • Bore / arbor size
  • Tooth count
  • Tooth geometry
  • Rake and clearance angles
  • Radius or special tooth profiles
  • Carbide grade
  • Coating
  • Dimensional tolerances

This makes the tool suitable for customers who need custom carbide slitting saws for CNC machines rather than standard stock sizes.

Typical Applications

A solid carbide slitting saw of this configuration can be used for precision machining operations such as:

  • CNC slotting
  • Narrow-slot milling
  • Grooving
  • Parting and separation
  • Precision component machining
  • Small-part manufacturing
  • Automated CNC production

The final tool geometry should always be selected according to the workpiece material, machine parameters, slot dimensions and cutting conditions.
