Customer Case: 3″ × 0.0625″ × 1″ Arbor × 60T Solid Carbide Slitting Saw
Custom Solid Carbide Slitting Saw for Precision Narrow-Slot Machining
A customer required a solid carbide slitting saw for precision narrow-slot machining on a CNC machine. The application required a thin cutting width, stable cutting performance, and a rigid mounting configuration.
Based on the customer’s requirements, we manufactured a custom:
3″ × 0.0625″ × 1″ Arbor × 60T × 1-1/2″ Hub Solid Carbide Slitting Saw
The combination of a 3-inch outside diameter, 0.0625-inch thickness, 60 teeth, 1-inch arbor, and 1-1/2-inch hub was selected for the customer’s specific machining application.

Thin 0.0625″ Design for Narrow Slots
The 0.0625-inch (1/16-inch) thickness provides a narrow cutting width, making this solid carbide slitting saw suitable for applications where minimizing the slot width and material removal is important.
A thin slitting saw can help reduce material loss and is particularly useful for precision slotting, grooving, and separation operations.
Because thin carbide saws require careful manufacturing and handling, maintaining consistent thickness, tooth geometry, concentricity, and cutting-edge quality is important for stable CNC machining.
60-Tooth Configuration for Controlled Cutting
The 60-tooth configuration provides a relatively fine tooth pitch for a 3-inch diameter slitting saw.
The higher tooth count can provide more frequent tooth engagement during cutting and can be suitable for applications requiring controlled cutting action and a consistent machined surface.
The final tooth geometry can be customized according to the workpiece material, cutting depth, machine spindle speed, feed rate, and required surface finish.
1″ Arbor and 1-1/2″ Hub Configuration
The customer specified a 1-inch arbor with a 1-1/2-inch hub.
This mounting configuration was manufactured according to the customer’s machine and tooling requirements rather than using a standard off-the-shelf configuration.
For custom solid carbide slitting saws, the mounting interface is an important part of the overall tool design. Arbor size, hub diameter, blade thickness, and tool rigidity need to be considered together to ensure proper installation and stable cutting.
Manufacturing a Custom Solid Carbide Slitting Saw
This project required more than simply selecting a standard carbide saw blade.
The complete tool configuration was manufactured according to the customer’s requirements, including:
- 3″ outside diameter
- 0.0625″ blade thickness
- 1″ arbor
- 60-tooth configuration
- 1-1/2″ hub
- Solid carbide construction
Other parameters can also be customized according to the machining application:
- Outside diameter
- Blade thickness
- Arbor / bore size
- Tooth count
- Tooth geometry
- Rake and clearance angles
- Special tooth profiles
- Carbide grade
- Coating
- Manufacturing tolerances
Typical CNC Applications
This type of thin solid carbide slitting saw can be considered for precision machining operations such as:
- Narrow-slot milling
- CNC slotting
- Precision grooving
- Part separation
- Small-component machining
- Precision metalworking
- Automated CNC production
The appropriate saw geometry should be selected according to the workpiece material, machine capability, slot dimensions, cutting parameters, and required surface finish.
