Customer Case: 5″ × 0.108″ × 1″ Arbor × 54T Solid Carbide Slitting Saw

Custom 5-Inch Solid Carbide Slitting Saw with 54 Teeth

A customer required a custom solid carbide slitting saw with a large outside diameter, relatively thin blade thickness, specific tooth count, and a customized mounting configuration.

Based on the customer’s specifications, we manufactured:

5″ × 0.108″ × 1″ Arbor × 54T × 3″ Hub Solid Carbide Slitting Saw

The tool was manufactured according to the customer’s required dimensions and mounting configuration. This project demonstrates our ability to produce large-diameter custom solid carbide slitting saws with application-specific dimensions.

Large-Diameter 5-Inch Solid Carbide Slitting Saw

The 5-inch outside diameter provides a larger cutting diameter for industrial cutting and machining applications where a larger saw diameter is required.

The 0.108-inch blade thickness provides a relatively narrow cutting width compared with thicker slitting saws. This configuration can be suitable for applications where controlled material removal and a specific kerf are required.

The blade thickness can be customized according to the customer’s workpiece, cutting requirements, tooling system, and required slot or cut width.

54-Tooth Configuration

This custom solid carbide slitting saw features 54 teeth.

The tooth count provides a balanced tooth pitch for controlled cutting and appropriate chip space. Tooth geometry can be further customized according to the workpiece material and cutting conditions.

Depending on the application, we can manufacture different tooth configurations, including:

  • Straight tooth
  • Alternate / staggered tooth
  • Radius tooth
  • Special tooth geometry

Tooth count, tooth geometry, rake angle, and clearance angle can all be selected according to the intended cutting application.

1″ Arbor and 3″ Hub

The customer specified a 1-inch arbor and 3-inch hub for this tool.

The large hub configuration was manufactured according to the customer’s required tooling and mounting system.

For custom slitting saws, the outside diameter, blade thickness, arbor, hub, and tooth configuration need to be considered as an integrated tool design. Proper dimensional matching helps ensure compatibility with the customer’s tooling system.

Solid Carbide Construction

The saw is manufactured from solid carbide, providing a rigid cutting structure for demanding precision cutting applications.

Solid carbide grades can be selected according to the workpiece material and required cutting performance. Optional coatings are also available for applications where increased wear resistance or specific cutting performance is required.

The carbide grade and coating should be selected according to the actual material and operating conditions rather than using one specification for every application.

Custom Manufacturing for Different Cutting Requirements

This project was manufactured as a custom tool rather than selected from a standard stock product.

The final specification was:

5″ × 0.108″ × 1″ Arbor × 54T × 3″ Hub

We can customize a wide range of parameters for solid carbide slitting saws, including:

  • Outside diameter
  • Blade thickness
  • Arbor / bore
  • Hub diameter
  • Tooth count
  • Tooth geometry
  • Rake and clearance angles
  • Special radius profiles
  • Carbide grade
  • Coating
  • Dimensional tolerances

This allows the finished tool to be matched to different workpieces, tooling systems, machines, and cutting requirements.

Typical Applications

Depending on the final tooth geometry, carbide grade, coating, and cutting conditions, solid carbide slitting saws can be used for:

  • Slotting
  • Grooving
  • Narrow-slot cutting
  • Part separation
  • Precision cutting
  • Component machining
  • Industrial metalworking

The appropriate slitting saw design should be selected according to the workpiece material, required cutting width, cutting depth, machine or tooling configuration, and operating parameters.
